On Wednesday the 9th of January, Noah Francis Said entered the world! He was 6 and a half pounds and labour was 1 hour and 30 minutes, including the drive from Ringwood Shopping Centre to the Mercy Hospital in Heidelberg. After a few hours, it became apparent that things were not well and Noah had to be moved from the family birth centre to the Neo Natale Intensive Care Unit. We all stayed at the Mercy Hospital for 2 days and then Harry and I went home, with Lisa and Noah staying on for another 2 days.

During that time, they had to check out why his heart rate was so slow, why his breathing was so shallow and why he was generally very lethargic. They had to do tests on his heart, lung, brain and all the other parts of him to try to ascertain what the problem was. In the end, he had some condition called poly something or other that means due to the shock of a quick delivery, he had an elevated red blood cell count. It is a temporary condition that is common in children who are born to quickly.
