::Rants-An 80's Education I am trying to introduce my Gen Y house mate into the richness that was 80's movies. Below is a compilation of movies that we are including in our "80's Movie Festival" to give him a snapshot of 80's pop culture. Yes there is a bias towards sci fi, but that is me.
With that in mind, I wonder what your thoughts are? Will he be getting a quintessential snapshot of the 80's? What would you lose/include?
fyi - We used www.boxofficemojo.com ad lookes at the top 50 from each year and tried to narrow it down to 3, 4 at a pinch. Let me know what you reckon. We start with Close Encounters this week!

I haven't seen a lot of these films you've listed, and I'm in my early 20's. So I am highly under-qualified to critisize. So I will merely suggest some others;
1980 - The Blues Brothers
1982 - E.T.
1983 - Risky Business
1984 - Police Academy, The Killing Fields
1987 - Lethal Weapon, The Princess Bride
1989 - Batman
There is a distinct pattern of 'un-serious' films in my list there. Anyway, there's some under-educated suggestions.

Pretty good list there Stephen. I have seen all bar two. I agree with the need for a couple of additions though,and second adding: Footloose, Stand by Me, and the classic Princess Bride. I am scared to rewatch the last one in case it really is no longer "Wuv, Twoo wuv"... I liked Bladerunner, and have watched it since. A brooding flick with a great soundtrack.
